The Cold Process: Soap making the good old way – the YOGH way

Студеният процес: Сапун по добрия стар начин – начинът на YOGH

In a world of over-packaged, overly-perfumed skincare products, there’s something quietly radical about a simple bar of real soap. Not just any soap—but one made the old-fashioned way. We’re talking about cold process soap: slow-crafted, deeply nourishing, and kind to your skin.

What Is Cold Process Soap?

Cold process soap is soap in its purest form. It’s made by blending natural oils (like olive, coconut, or shea butter) with a lye solution (sodium hydroxide and water). This triggers saponification—a chemical reaction that transforms oils into soap and glycerin.

  • No heat
  • No shortcuts
  • Just quality ingredients and time

Once poured into moulds, the soap sets in a few days, then cures for 4–6 weeks. This curing period allows the bar to harden naturally, becoming gentle, long-lasting, and wonderfully effective.

Why Cold Process Is Better

Most commercial soap is made using an industrial method called “extrusion”—where bars are squeezed out of machines like sausages. This process prioritises speed and shelf life, not skin health. Ingredients are limited, and key benefits are stripped away. Around 95% of commercial soaps rely on palm and palm kernel oils, with natural glycerin and fatty acids removed and sold separately to the cosmetics industry. The result? A crumbly, drying bar that leaves your skin parched.

At YOGH®, we do things differently. Our cold process preserves the natural properties of each ingredient, retaining all the glycerin created during saponification. Glycerin is a powerful humectant—it draws moisture into your skin and helps keep it there.

Glycerin, the game changer

During saponification, a process with roots going back to ancient Babylon, natural glycerin is formed and—unlike in commercial soap manufacturing—it stays in the bar. Glycerin is a humectant, which means it pulls moisture from the air into your skin, keeping it hydrated and happy. And we go one step further: we “superfat” our soap by adding extra plant oils and fresh yoghurt at the end of the process. This leaves a portion of the oils unsaponified, so they nourish your skin directly.

Honest Ingredients, Thoughtful Craft

Cold process soap doesn’t need synthetic detergents, preservatives, or fillers. That’s why it doesn’t leave your skin tight or irritated. Each YOGHSOAP® bar is packed with skin-loving oils, gentle cleansing power, and lush, creamy lather.

It’s not just about how we make soap—it’s about why. Cold process is a return to slow, intentional craftsmanship. Each bar reflects patience, care, and respect for both your skin and the planet.

The Beauty of Simplicity

At YOGH, we believe in real soap made with real ingredients:

  • No sulphates
  • No parabens
  • No artificial foaming agents

Because quality doesn’t need gimmicks. With YOGH, you get transparency, traceability, and the quiet luxury of something made with time and care. No synthetic junk—just honest beauty, thoughtfully made, because your skin deserves something real.
